Kozhukatta (കൊഴുക്കട്ട)

Posted on: July 30, 2009

Ram’s colleague had visited us over a weekend, I had prepared some traditional kerala food. I served him Kozhukatta and Otada as a sweet 😉 and this was a snap he had taken after taking a bite of kozhukatta:-)

Recipe for kozhukatta:-

Rice flour – 1 cup
Boiling water – 1 cup
Salt – 1/4 tsp
Coconut scraped – 3 tbsp
Jaggery grated/ brown sugar – 5 tbsp
Cardamom powdered – 1/4 tsp

– Mix brown sugar, cardamom powder and coconut and keep aside
– In a bowl mix rice flour and salt with boiling water
– Add water slowly, so that u can mix properly
– Make a soft dough
– Now take a small portion and flatten it in your palm
– You need to wet your hands continuously so as to avoid the dough from sticking on to your hands
– Now place a little coconut mixture prepared on the dough

– Fold the dough so as to make a ball.

– Prepare more balls
– Now place it in idli stand or any vessel and steam for 15 min

Before I got an idli stand I used a steel vessel and steamed the kozhukatta in a pressure cooker without whistle.
